From shopping and dining to entertainment and VIP treatment, Munich Airport really does have it all. A destination unto itself, MUC keeps passengers and locals satisfied with unique amenities and offerings.

MunichAirport2VIPS ENJOY THE airport’s exclusive program. The VIP Wing is a 13,000-square-foot relaxation space featuring a bar, lounge areas, quiet work stations and rooms, complimentary Internet connectivity, luxurious bathrooms and resting areas, a cigar lounge, an interdenominational prayer room and a Bavarian beer garden. All passengers can book the experience, regardless of airline or class of service. Other VIP services include check-in and baggage handling; separate security screening, passport control, customs clearance and VAT refunds; limousine transfer; a personal care and guest liaison; and a multilingual, professional staff. On-site VIP Suites, which can be booked without the other services and by non-passengers, offer a variety of amenities, including conference tables, a sleeping area and space for a meeting for up to 10 people.

A MINIMUM CONNECTION time of 30 minutes is not enough time to experience all the wonders of Munich Airport. Area residents join passengers to enjoy the entertainment available at the airport — polo matches, surfing competitions, volleyball tournaments and an annual Christmas market. The first and only brewery at an airport, Airbräu serves three types of beer in addition to several seasonal options. The large beer garden allows up to 600 visitors to enjoy food and drinks outside; the menu includes Bavarian favorites. MUC also leads the way in airport innovation with Napcabs sleeping cabins. The pods offer a comfortable bed, self-adjusted music and lighting, a small desk and complimentary Internet access.

MUNICH AIRPORT IS a shopper’s paradise, with duty-free items, electronics, high-end fashion, accessories and trendy gifts available. More than 150 shops cater to all types of shoppers in both the public and nonpublic areas of the airport. Despite Germany’s regulations on shopping hours, MUC’s retailers are open seven days from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; the supermarket is open 5:30 a.m. until midnight. New this year is the luxury shopping promenade in Terminal 2, including Gucci, Mulberry and Bottega Veneta.

New Visitor Center Opens in Albania’s Vjosa Wild River National Park

After recently establishing a 50,000-acre national park that includes the wild Vjosa River, the Albanian government selected Copenhagen-based CEBRA architectural firm to design a multifunctional visitor center in Tepelenë, as well as information stations in the towns of Përmet and Vlorë. The newly established Vjosa Wild River National Park, with 250 miles of waterway, has become the first protected wild river in Europe. CEBRA’s three buildings were inspired by the combination of soil and water, with building materials simply consisting of just two parts: concrete slaps, which resemble tectonic plates that shape the river’s path, and natural rocks, which mimic the submerged stones that nature has broken down into pebbles and sand deposited along the banks of the Vjosa.

The Evolution of Boston’s Buzziest Bites

Boston has long been beloved for both its seafood prowess and the authentic Italian cuisine of the North End, but it hasn’t historically been known for having a fully developed culinary scene beyond these specialties. That’s changing.
