Ever wanted to embark on an udon-tasting journey around one of Japan’s prefectures? How about a soy-sauce tasting on an island? Up your trip to Japan with these unique, culinary-inspired experiences, sure to leave you with a full belly and some good stories.
Take an Udon Taxi in Takamatsu
Arguably best enjoyed during the colder months, udon is a comforting dish integral to Japanese culture. Take your tasting of udon one step further with a trip with Udon Taxi, a unique cab tour where local drivers take you to famous udon restaurants and hidden gems not found in guidebooks. These full-time drivers passed a test to explain in detail the history and culture of udon, as well as the best way to order it. Book an Udon Taxi in the western part of Kagawa prefecture, including Sakaide, Marugame, Zentsuji and Kotohira. Book trips between 60 and 180 minutes long.
Visit a Soy Sauce Brewery on an Island
Visit a moromi soy sauce brewing house that also doubles as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property. Twenty-five percent of all traditional soy sauce producers are based on one of the islands connected to Shodoshima by Angel Road. This brewery is open for tastings and free walk-in tours. While in this region, head to Ikuchijima and Takanejima to visit the more than 600 lemon orchards, best known for producing Setoda lemon and Hakata salt gelato and Setoda lemon cake.
Build Your Own Okonomiyaki Pancake in Hiroshima
Okonomimura is a multistory “okonomiyaki village” in the heart of Hiroshima’s Naka-ku district, home to 23 different restaurants, each offering its own take on this beloved dish. Okonomiyaki is a savory pancake typically made with cabbage, meat, seafood and noodles. While here, be sure to also visit Peace Memorial Museum and try some tasty oysters.

Sep 17, 2026High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture
It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
