After completing an extensive renovation and revitalization, Bambu Indah reopened in June 2024, with a stunning combination of bamboo buildings and antique Javanese teakwood homes, each with individual design details.

World-renowned jewelry designers and founders of the innovative Green School Bali, John and Cynthia Hardy named this collection of antique teak homes and bamboo houses Bambu Indah, which translates from Bahasa Indonesia to English as “Beautiful Bamboo.” Rooms are adorned with art and artifacts collected from around the world by the Hardys, and every room provides air-conditioning and sophisticated amenities including luxurious beds with fine linens; soft waffle cotton robes; natural bath products; and complimentary coffee, tea and fridge full of healthy snacks and drinks.

The ethos at Bambu Indah is one of respect for the land. Guests can soak in spring-fed swimming pools, sleep in houses with bamboo shoots emerging through the floors or stay in the treehouse built in harmony with the great ficus tree. There are organic rice paddies and permaculture gardens of seasonal Balinese vegetables, herbs and flowers throughout the property.

Organic waste from restaurants is used as compost, and water is triple-filtered, eliminating plastic use. Bambu Indah offers a total of 23 unique houses, two restaurants, one bar, multiple natural and man-made pools, and massage rooms. The property just completed a riverside yoga shala on the property. Nearby are hiking and walking trails.

The revitalized upper area of the property has seven special houses newly placed in a crescent shape around a communal salt-water chlorine pool overlooking the Sayan Ridge. These teakwood bridal homes were hand-picked in Java by the property owners, who originally brought them to the property to accommodate close friends and guests.

These houses once were gifts from Javanese noblemen to their new brides and were later restored for modern living. Situated closer to the entrance and main Tembaga restaurant, guests will find four beautiful, new cozy bamboo Nests, perfect for individuals and couples.

Below the ridge at Riverside, six more architectural houses are available, including the family-friendly Riverbend House. New Moon House, with its copper and brass features, is the latest and most fanciful edition to the Riverside houses. For the more spirited visitors seeking total immersion in nature, three roomy tents on platforms are perched high, available to guests at an inviting price.

Three gorgeous food and beverage sites are spread out around the property, available to all guests. The new Tembaga Restaurant is now open with a focus on tasty healthy foods geared toward longevity. River Warung sits next to the Ayung River offering refreshing drinks and a delicious menu celebrating Indonesian cuisine. The unique Sunset Elevator bar is a beautiful spot to enjoy an artisanal cocktail and watch the sun go down over the rice fields.

The bamboo Sunset Elevator Bar hosts the only elevator of its kind in the world, carrying guests down a hand-carved mud shaft adorned with crystals through the center of the earth to the riverside area of Bambu Indah, an extraordinary experience in and of itself.
