Who doesn’t love an English summer at a private estate in the countryside? Plan your own escape with a stay at The Newt in Somerset’s new Yarlington Lodge. Once a rectory, the lodge and Regency-era estate are set within 12 acres of formal gardens, surrounded by cottages and historic woodlands. Walled garden? Naturally. Fresh from a multiyear restoration led by The Newt’s co-owner Karen Roos in collaboration with Richard Parr Associates, the lodge is positioned about a mile from the main estate, available for private getaways, corporate retreats and family gatherings.

The property can accommodate up to 32 guests within three elegant residences. Yarlington Lodge has eight bedrooms, a library, drawing room and formal dining room. Windows look out upon the gardens and croquet lawn, while amenities include a private cinema and speakeasy bar.

The former stables and carriage store have been converted into The Coach House, with four bedrooms and a full kitchen. Here, nods to the structure’s original equestrian trappings include exposed stone, paneled walls and bespoke carved wooden furnishings. Lastly, Cottage in The Wall — originally a gardener’s cottage — is a four-bedroom retreat with special touches including velvet seating, woven furnishings, arched windows and floral wall coverings.

Stays can be enhanced with a private butler team, spa therapists offering botanical therapies and treatments, personal trainers, and nanny services. A private chef is also an option, with farm-fresh menus featuring items from the estate’s own creamery, cider cellars, butchery, fruit orchards and vegetable gardens. There’s tennis and an indoor-outdoor pool, and arrangements can be made for area activities.
