Vancouver Island gets progressively wilder as you leave Victoria behind and follow the coastline west. By the time you reach Sooke, about 45 minutes from the provincial capital, city blocks have surrendered to forests, rocky shoreline, sheltered coves and long views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Prestige Oceanfront Resort rises directly above Sooke Harbour, where boats move across the basin, and the Olympic Mountains form the horizon beyond the strait.
Sooke draws much of its identity from the sea, and the resort keeps you connected to it from morning coffee through dinner. A marina sits below the hotel, walking paths trace the waterfront, and Adirondack chairs and fire tables turn the shoreline into an outdoor gathering spot after sunset. Against the rugged shoreline, the resort takes a more formal approach to seaside architecture. With white façades and verandas inspired by Waikiki’s historic Moana Surfrider, the exterior brings a touch of Hawai’i’s surf heritage to a Vancouver Island coastline with a surf culture of its own.
Prestige Oceanfront Resort belongs to family-owned British Columbia hotel company Prestige Hotels & Resorts and is affiliated with WorldHotels Luxury, part of BWH Hotels. You get the infrastructure and recognition of a global hotel collection without checking into a standardized international brand experience, and stays earn points through either Prestige Rewards or WorldHotels Rewards.
The 122 guestrooms and four suites spread across five floors, with room categories determined partly by their outlook. Water-view accommodations make the most sense here, with windows and balconies looking toward Sooke Harbour, Sooke Basin or the surrounding coastline. Premium Water View rooms add balconies and more space to settle in, with select accommodations equipped with sofa beds, microwaves and refrigerators.
The fifth-floor Prestige Level steps things up with king and two-queen rooms, plus a one-bedroom suite with a separate living area, along with a daily breakfast credit, spa-quality bath salts and upgraded bath amenities.
At the top end, the Beverly Hills Penthouse spans more than 1,900 square feet indoors, with two primary bedrooms, two en-suite bathrooms, an open-plan kitchen and living area, and a gas fireplace. A sprawling outdoor space system includes nearly 1,700 additional square feet with views in multiple directions, a private rooftop putting green and an outdoor hot tub.
Business groups have more than 5,000 square feet of convention space, anchored by the 4,170-square-foot Oceanfront Grand Ballroom, which divides into three salons and accommodates up to 350 for receptions. Smaller meetings can use the Executive Boardroom and Harbourview Room, with additional event space extending outdoors to terraces and a waterfront pavilion.
You’ll spend less time in the room once you see how easily the resort connects with Sooke itself. Complimentary kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and e-bikes are available seasonally, putting both the basin and surrounding roads within easy reach. Walking paths begin nearby, and on-site Prestige Marina & Fuel accommodates recreational boats, commercial vessels and even floatplanes.
Sooke is a strong base for exploring this stretch of Vancouver Island. Sooke Potholes Regional Park is known for its sculpted rock formations and swimming holes along the Sooke River. East Sooke Regional Park brings miles of forest and coastal trails, and French Beach opens onto the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Farther west, the landscape continues toward the Juan de Fuca Trail and some of the island’s most dramatic shoreline. Fishing, whale watching, kayaking, cycling and hiking can easily fill several days without a trip back toward Victoria.
Back at the resort, Coastal Tides Day Spa takes advantage of the waterfront setting with ocean views accompanying massages, facials, body treatments and nail services. A heated indoor pool and hot tub add an all-weather option for swimming and soaking when the temperatures dip too low for comfort outdoors, and the athletic center covers cardio and strength training.
West Coast Grill is the resort’s main restaurant, with West Coast-inspired dishes accompanied by British Columbia wines, local craft beers and cocktails. Large windows keep Sooke Harbour prominent throughout the meal. Nearby, Vault Lounge is an even more laid-back option to dining and drinks with big-screen televisions and pub fare. Rounding out the lobby-level venues, Island Tarts Café & Catering is an ideal stop before heading outdoors for the day: Specialty coffee, breakfast fare, sandwiches, and its namesake sweet and savory tarts cover an easy meal before a hike or drive along the coast.
Sooke never disappears once you enter the hotel. The harbor remains outside the windows, local boats pull into the marina, British Columbia wines reach the table and kayaks wait near the water. Instead of separating you from Vancouver Island behind resort gates, Prestige Oceanfront Resort keeps directing your attention back toward the coastline you came to experience.
