In 2027, Tampa’s iconic river walk unveils a new 281-room urban resort overlooking Hillsborough River. The property underwent an extensive transformation, with the contemporary-led design showcasing custom furnishings, tropical character, and details drawn from Italian and Cuban roots.
“Hotel Cala gives us the opportunity to reimagine it for a new generation,” said Neil Luthra, founding partner, Newbond Holdings. “We wanted to create something that feels distinctly Tampa.”
The heart of the hotel welcomes guests to a never-ending social hub, evolving naturally throughout the day, from morning coffee and light bites to an energized evening lounge and gathering space by night. The circular space is intended to be envisioned as “Tampa’s Living Room,” complemented by floor-to-ceiling arched windows, plenty of natural light, and direct access to main dining venues and a pool deck.
Two new culinary offerings will be available at Hotel Cala: LAVO makes its Tampa debut with its signature Italian dining experience and dishes, while BarOnda will offer guests a more casual, vibrant vibe, perfect for waterfront views and yummy cocktails.
“We’re looking forward to creating spaces that feel equally relevant to Tampa locals and visitors and that complement the energy and sense of place Hotel Cala is bringing to the city,” Noah Tepperberg, co-CEO, Tao Group Hospitality.

Oct 12, 2026The Quest for Quiet: Choose the Best Noise-Canceling Headsets to Suit Your Travel Style
Back in the 1990s, when I was traveling on my airline pilot father’s standby passes, there weren’t many ways for passengers to cancel ambient noise while in flight. I remember squishing and twisting little yellow pairs of foam earplugs with my fingers and letting them rise in my ears while I swirled ice around in my Pawberry Punch and ripped open a cold pouch of Delta-branded Biscoff cookies. Much has changed in travel technology since those days; and although I’ll forever miss Dusty the Delta Air Lion, I’m happy to report no more need for plastic ear foam.

Oct 7, 2026Review: Prestige Oceanfront Resort
Vancouver Island gets progressively wilder as you leave Victoria behind and follow the coastline west. By the time you reach Sooke, about 45 minutes from the provincial capital, city blocks have surrendered to forests, rocky shoreline, sheltered coves and long views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Prestige Oceanfront Resort rises directly above Sooke Harbour, where boats move across the basin, and the Olympic Mountains form the horizon beyond the strait.
