It’s no secret this month means great changes for the United States of America, with the Nov. 8 election and our two candidates for president appearing everywhere, from our TV screens and reading material to our local towns and cities. Whatever the decision, President Trump or President Clinton, the effects will be felt around the globe. In our own nod to election season, we take a closer look at the state of aviation, another industry with far-reaching, worldwide implications. Ilona Kauremszky gave each CEO a little more than two minutes when she moderated the debate among three airline head honchos in “Ups and Downs” on page 38. We also cover the city awaiting its newest resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington, D.C., on page 58, and hear from an executive at Trump Hotels on page 21.
Among the many destinations I’ve visited this year, Belgium made quite an impression during a four-day visit in July. As you can tell from my photo here, I quite enjoyed indulging in many of the delicacies Belgium is known for, from chocolate-making in Brussels to sampling moules frites with a side of beer in Antwerp. I report on another indulgent spot to visit in Antwerp on page 30, and Susan B. Barnes offers a closer look at one of the city’s delightful neighborhoods on page 63.
As I write this letter, I’m preparing for a return visit to another destination covered in this issue, Abu Dhabi. As Richard Newton reports on page 52, Abu Dhabi is ever-changing, and I expect to experience that for myself, as it has been five years since my last trip to the region. We continue our around-the-world journey this month with stops in Santiago, Medellín, Atlanta, Bangkok, Bucharest, the Dalmatian Coast and Ibiza.
Join us next month as we announce the winners of the 13th annual GT Tested Reader Survey awards!
