A touch of London’s art and design scene will make its way to the Far East this fall. In October, the Shenzhen Design Society will open a museum that will feature its own Victoria and Albert gallery, paying homage to the first-ever partnership between museums from the U.K. and China.
Established in 1852, London’s V&A Museum has become the world’s top museum for art and design. The city of Shenzhen looks fondly to the museum as a vehicle for bringing Chinese art and design to the Western world, and the collaboration will bring some of London’s best works to the new arts district in Shenzhen.
Located north of Hong Kong, Shenzhen’s growing arts and design district will offer visitors a selection of museums, theatres, restaurants, shops and manicured outdoor spaces. In recent years, Shenzhen developed into a hub for culture, art and creativity, and the design district is an expansion of this venture. The first exhibitions will focus on 20th- and 21st-century design initiatives, and the future of design around the world.
