GETTING THERE & AROUND
Charleston International Airport serves the city. Airlines flying in/out of the airport include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue and United Airlines, with several non-stop flights available to cities across the country. There is bus service from the airport, though the most convenient way to get to downtown Charleston is via car rental, taxi or rideshare, at about a 25-minute drive. Depending on your plans, the best way to get around once in the city center is on foot or by car.

LODGING
The Charleston Place

DINING
The Darling Oyster Bar
For standout seafood, look no further than The Darling Oyster Bar. While known for its raw bar selections, the hot seafood, Southern sides and beverage program are equally impressive. A second location recently opened in Savannah.

Husk
A staple of Charleston’s restaurant scene since 2011, Husk serves modern Southern comfort food in historic digs. If you aren’t able to get a reservation, check out The Bar & Patio at Husk located in a historic building adjacent to the main dining room. The Bar & Patio is available on a first come, first served basis. Husk also has locations in Nashville and Savannah.

Lewis Barbecue
Lewis Barbecue serves up Texas-style barbecue with a Charleston spin. The restaurant is open daily until sold out. In addition to smoked meats (pulled pork, brisket, ribs, sausage), the menu features standout sides, sandwiches and dessert. Lewis Barbecue doesn’t take reservations.

ATTRACTIONS
The Charleston Museum
Founded in 1773, The Charleston Museum holds the title of America’s first museum. Its collection includes an assortment of historical artifacts and decorative arts. The museum also owns and operates two historical house museums: Heywood-Washington House and Joseph Manigault House. The museum and two houses welcome guests daily.

Fort Sumter
Learn about Charleston’s naval history at Fort Sumter. Accessible only via ferry, Fort Sumter is the site where the first shots of the American Civil War occurred. Today the National Historic Park features a museum with ranger-led tours.

Walking Tour
A walking tour is always an excellent option for learning more about a destination, and this is especially true in Charleston. Tour operators offer tours covering a wide range of interests including history, architecture, food, ghosts, nature and more. Bulldog Tours, Two Sisters Tours and Walks of Charleston are popular options.

AMERICA’S 250TH ANNIVERSARY
As the largest and oldest city in South Carolina, Charleston offers a glimpse into the past. The port city dates to the 1670s, with dozens of buildings from the early 1700s still standing. Charleston hosts special events and celebrations throughout America’s 250th year, honoring the city’s contributions to the country’s history, including an original 1776 copy of the Declaration of Independence, printed in Charleston, on display at The Charleston Museum through Aug. 30.
