The Historic Triangle of Virginia spans three colonial towns: Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg and Yorktown, all situated between the York and James rivers. These three communities hold much of America’s early colonial history, with restored attractions, museums, archaeological sites, preserved buildings and battlefields detailing a long and rich history.

GETTING THERE & AROUND
Both Norfolk International Airport and Richmond International Airport lie within less than an hour’s drive of the Historic Triangle. Rental cars are available at both airports. The region is also accessible via I-64 and I-95. Once in the Historic Triangle, the best way to travel between communities is by the scenic Colonial Parkway. In Yorktown, take the free Yorktown Trolley connecting the visitor center to its waterfront and museums. Walking is popular in both Williamsburg and Jamestown, especially in the older sections where travelers can step back in time for an immersive day.

American Revolution Museum at Yorktown
Detailing the history of the United States, from its founding to colonial unrest to the formation of the new United States, this acclaimed museum spans indoor galleries with rare artifacts, outdoor living history areas, films and more.

Colonial Williamsburg
The world’s largest living history museum, Colonial Williamsburg spans hundreds of restored and recreated 18th-century buildings. The city was the capital of the colony of Virginia and, today, features people dressed in costumes from the era as well as notable sites like the Governor’s Palace, Courthouse, Wythe House and Raleigh Tavern.

Historic Jamestowne
This cultural heritage site occupies the location of the 1607 James Fort and 17th-century Jamestown. Explore the old town, including the restored Jamestown church and ruined statehouse; monuments like the Pocahontas statue; and the Voorhees Archaearium, a museum with excavated artifacts and exhibits.

AMERICA’S 250TH ANNIVERSARY
There’s perhaps no better place to celebrate than here. On Sept. 12, Yorktown will hold an enactment of 1781 before American and French forces arrived to lay siege. Constitution Day celebrations commence Sept. 17, while a Yorktown victory celebration gets underway Oct. 17. Then, on Nov. 14, head to Williamsburg to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its establishment as a preserved historic site.
