Set amidst San Antonio’s colonial heritage and backdrop of notable Spanish missions, the historic Omni La Mansión del Rio — a member of Historic Hotels of America — revealed a brand-new story of its own.
Dating to 1852 with an architectural ambience suggesting a grand hacienda, the hotel’s 300 luxury guestrooms and 38 suites underwent renovations with designs by Michael Dalton of White Space Interiors. Dalton’s updates celebrate the original hotel space while creating an even more luxurious haven for guests.
Renovations include new beds, with most full-sized beds converted to queen-sized beds; new nightstands and dressers; lounge chairs with ottomans; desks, tables and chairs; and new carpeting and lighting fixtures.
Rooms also feature new artwork, with 49-inch high-definition televisions in standard guestrooms and 55-inch high-definition televisions in Ambassador Suites. The upgraded television system with high-definition channels and movies includes the option of casting directly onto television screens from personal devices.
There’s also a brand-new WiFi system, RFID door locks, updated air conditioning and fresh paint. Fully renovated bathrooms feature new walk-in showers to replace old bathtubs, with new bathtubs installed in a selection of two-bed guestrooms. Other amenities include marble top vanities, patterned floor tile, new mirrors and new lighting and plumbing fixtures.

Oct 7, 2026Review: Prestige Oceanfront Resort
Vancouver Island gets progressively wilder as you leave Victoria behind and follow the coastline west. By the time you reach Sooke, about 45 minutes from the provincial capital, city blocks have surrendered to forests, rocky shoreline, sheltered coves and long views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Prestige Oceanfront Resort rises directly above Sooke Harbour, where boats move across the basin, and the Olympic Mountains form the horizon beyond the strait.

Sep 30, 2026Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley
Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
