Adding to Long Island’s enduring allure, 34-room boutique Oyster Estate made its debut.

The third hotel from Blue Flag Capital to open on the East End of Long Island, the new property (in partnership with in-house management company Collared Martin Hospitality) is centrally located near the waterfront in Greenport Village on the North Fork peninsula. Formerly known as Greenporter Hotel, the hotel’s transformation was in collaboration with Islyn Studio.

“We approached the Greenporter with a lot of respect for its history and the role it has played in the community, while recognizing the opportunity to evolve it into something entirely new,” added Brad Guidi, co-founder and chief development officer, Blue Flag Capital. “The bones of the property remain, but nearly every aspect of the guest experience was reimagined, drawing inspiration from Greenport’s maritime heritage and creative spirit to create something that feels distinctly rooted in the North Fork.”

The original structure is still intact, with an ocean-inspired palette of colors evoking the shore, such as softly weathered greens, clays and stone exposed to the elements; and a collection of inviting rooms that project a feeling of being both treasured and lived-in. Guest rooms feature robes and linens by Parachute Home, bath amenities from Salt & Stone, Tivoli Bluetooth speakers, in-room minibars, and minifridges. Fellow tea kettles and complimentary coffee and teas are an additional meticulous and classy touch — the separate kettle ensures tea lovers can happily avoid sipping tea that carries the disruptive essence of coffee.

Throughout, there’s the sense of being a cherished guest, augmented by the presence of found objects from the area, books and plants. The property’s gracefully honed courtyard, patio and outdoor pool invite socializing, while the new dining offering and signature cocktail bar, Fortune Favors, gives guests every reason to settle in for a Greenport-influenced culinary experience.

Guests can indulge in a menu featuring Asian-inspired fare created with the fresh abundance offered by local Greenport ingredients, then relax to enjoy the venue’s own Listening Room where a space-specific sound system and selection of vinyls helps create a cohesive dining experience.

“With Fortune Favors, we’re excited to introduce another layer to the Oyster Estate experience, creating a place where guests and locals alike can come together over food, cocktails and music,” said Eric Freitas Orford, managing director, New York, Faraway Hotels. “Looking ahead, we’re also excited to build out programming that connects visitors more deeply with everything Greenport and the surrounding North Fork have to offer, while creating experiences that give the local community new reasons to return throughout the year.”

Boston-based Blue Flag portfolio includes the Faraway brand, with properties in Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Montauk, New York, Sag Harbor and Jackson Hole.

Review: Prestige Oceanfront Resort

Vancouver Island gets progressively wilder as you leave Victoria behind and follow the coastline west. By the time you reach Sooke, about 45 minutes from the provincial capital, city blocks have surrendered to forests, rocky shoreline, sheltered coves and long views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Prestige Oceanfront Resort rises directly above Sooke Harbour, where boats move across the basin, and the Olympic Mountains form the horizon beyond the strait.

Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley

Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
