The spa’s highly skilled Asian therapists are educated in proprietary techniques at the Banyan Tree Spa Academy in Thailand, always checking to see whether you need a firmer or lighter touch. I opted for the Thai Classic, a 60-minute treatment with a 30-minute refreshment and relaxation afterward. My therapist offered me a choice of aromatherapy and also asked what areas I would like to emphasize. I told her my lower back. Her deep palm strokes, offset with delicate stretching, proved the perfect yin/yang experience. Since Thai massage is a holistic approach that promotes balance, I emerged from my session energized and engaged and with a lower back that no longer hurt.
