The Views From Here

2012 / July 2012

While mulling thoughts for my letter this month, my mind keeps circling back to the old General Electric slogan: We Bring Good Things to Life.

Global Traveler’s writers have a knack for doing just that, using words to draw readers into their experiences, to communicate a sense of place and to create an almost sensory framework for relaying the sound, look, feel, taste and smell of a destination. So I’m delighted to share the news that we are taking that shared experience to the next level by creating a video library on the Global Traveler website. Check out our inaugural video featuring GT contributor Catherine Groux’s experience at a Buddhist temple in Korea. And keep checking back for new and interesting videos showcasing the adventures of the GT staff and contributors as we roam the globe to bring you news and information to complement the comprehensive destination coverage you expect from Global Traveler magazine.

In this issue, Richard Newton reports on using travel as a springboard to discover your family history and reveals Santiago’s nocturnal secrets. Debra Bokur gets down to business in Frankfurt, and Bill Fink seeks adventure in Bora-Bora. Michael DeFreitas takes a day off in Dubai. Ron Bernthal reports from Osaka. Christopher Cox offers tips for a family-style getaway to Boston, and Ellen Clark kicks back in Cabo.

This great line-up of articles brings to mind another, more recent, brand slogan: Life Is Good. Indeed, it is.

Why Japan Is Best Explored by Sea with Princess

Japan is a destination that rewards repeat visits because no two regions — or seasons —  feel quite the same. One moment, you’re wandering through centuries-old geisha districts in Kanazawa. The next, you’re watching neon reflections dance across Tokyo streets long after midnight.
