Shifting Gears

If your meetings or travels take you down to Hudson Street in Manhattan, make sure you take about 20 minutes to tour Cadillac House. Cadillac set up its head executive office in the heart of New York’s technology and design neighborhoods, recently opening its brand awareness center. The venue integrates the Cadillac brand into daily life with a public meeting space, a coffee shop, a fashion boutique that rotates periodically to other designers, and an art exhibit that ties in Cadillac’s future vision for the brand. Four Cadillacs form the central eye-stopper of the location. As I toured the center with Richard Evans, senior vice president, Global Traveler, Diana pleasantly greeted us and took us on a 20-minute review, including sitting in Cadillac’s flagship model, the CT6.

Many of our Global Traveler staff will be on the road over the next month. Banu Yilmaz, advertising director, heads to Iceland while Kimberly Krol, editor in chief, just returned from Air India’s inaugural flight from Newark to London (the flight continues on to Ahmedabad, Gujarat). I’m reminded of my trip to Ahmedabad more than two years ago to meet with the director of tourism. Gujarat is the home of Gandhi, an incredible individual and quite possibly one of the greatest ever to walk the Earth. There are many things to do in Gandhi’s homeland, a region well known for relaxation and mediation spas.

Meanwhile, at the head office we are gearing up for the third annual Red & White Ball at the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott, where 600-plus will gather for our black-tie event to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. March 4 is the date, and Global Traveler will play a big role in making it a success through our annual online auction, sponsorships and automobile raffle. Many GT subscribers participate through bidding online, sponsoring tables and offering items and events for the auction. It is a wonderful collaboration. Of course, the team here gets involved, including Kimberly Krol as the auction chair. We all attend and chip in to help cure blood cancers.

We are planning our Globility Board meeting at the end of this month at the lovely Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. To become members of the board, Global Traveler subscribers submit an application and go through a strict vetting process. Many are entrepreneurs who travel the world not just for business but also for personal growth. The word “globility” defines their openness to learning and understanding cultural differences. It should prove an interesting meeting, and we are always looking for new candidates who have the “right stuff.” If you feel you do, please reach out to me via email at [email protected].

Now that the Rio Olympics are behind us, it is nice to shift gears and reflect on the positive aspects of competing and doing so on a level playing field. Enjoy your sprint to the end of the year!

The Argosaronic Islands Are Calling

The Saronic or Argo Saronic Islands of Greece call travelers to explore its seven small islands and islets brimming with history, natural sites and more. With most easily accessible by boat, the islands’ proximity to ports of Athens make the Saronic Islands an ideal destination for those preferring shorter boat rides. In fact, trips from Athens ports to the islands take only between 10 minutes and two hours, depending on the island you choose, making them perfect for day or weekend trips. From Piraeus port, you can access Hydra, Spetses, Aegina and Poros directly. Come explore these stunning islands with us and find the inspiration to plan your next trip to these islands. Hydra Hydra town curves around a slope overlooking the Argosaronic Gulf like an amphitheater and is considered one of the most romantic destinations in Greece. Most unique to the island is its lack of vehicles. People on the island get around on mules and donkeys as well as water taxis, making for a peaceful and laid-back day. Hydra lies a two-hour ferry ride from Piraeus port in Athens.
