Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection, Tanzania’s first Marriott-branded safari camp, celebrates its first anniversary. The camp lies within Ikoma Wildlife Management Area, a community-based conservation area where animals can roam freely year-round.

Mapito features 15 luxury one- and two-bedroom tented suites and a two-bedroom villa for an all-inclusive safari experience. Each stay comes with a private luxury Land Cruiser safari car and a guide, letting guests explore the African wilderness at their own pace. With private game drives and night game safari drives, guests can explore the Serengeti any time of the day. After the sun sets, guests will even have the chance to spot nocturnal wildlife in the area. While at camp, guests can relax at the spa or take a dip in the infinity pool. Dining includes farm-to-table experiences featuring fresh produce from the camp’s on-site vegetable garden.

Within its first year, Mapito Safari Camp has supported and worked with a variety of local initiatives such as Give a Future Foundation, Hope for Girls and Women Centre. The camp supports girls through education, mentoring and vocational opportunities at the camp. Additionally, the camp and the foundation helped healthcare centers in surrounding communities and has even supported a full-time doctor and provided essential medicines at Robanda Medical Clinic.

The camp also created more than 250 jobs during the construction process, and now 90 percent of its employees are Tanzanian, including members of the camp’s senior leadership team. Commitment to the region also shines through the camp itself. It was built and furnished using locally sourced materials to highlight Tanzanian craftsmanship. Throughout the camp, guests will see locally crafted designs, take part in local cultural experiences and witness artisan partnerships celebrating surrounding communities.
