Since its first flight in 1945, TAP Portugal has pushed the boundaries of air travel. Today, the airline’s extensive network connects Lisbon, one of Europe’s most important gateway cities, to 75 destinations in 34 countries, with an average 2,250 flights a week.
And with the June launch of new service from Lisbon to Bucharest, the Portuguese national carrier shows no signs of slowing down. The three weekly flights depart Lisbon Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The new route complements ongoing expansion including recently launched flights to Berlin and Turin.
The routes debuted on the heels of two major milestones. In January and February, TAP Portugal transported 687,000 passengers, an exceptional growth of nearly 25 percent year over year. Also in February, TAP Portugal welcomed its 50,000th passenger aboard its newest intercontinental route connecting Lisbon and Miami —only eight months after its inception.
TAP Portugal listens to passengers. The carrier will be one of the first European airlines to introduce in-flight connectivity on aircraft flying between Europe and North and South America. OnAir WiFi service will be available on the carrier’s Airbus A330s allowing Internet access on all WiFi-enabled devices inflight.
TAP Portugal boasts an impressive roster of awards. The carrier earned the title Best Airline in Europe in Global Traveler’s GT Tested Reader Survey and Best Red Wine in Business Class at the Global Traveler Wines on the Wing competition. Marketeer magazine named TAP Portugal the 2012 Best National Company in the Tourism Sector in its annual awards presentation recognizing impressive marketing, advertising and communications and The World Travel Awards celebrated the airline as the World’s Leading Airline to Africa and, for the third consecutive year, the World’s Leading Airline to South America. In Brazil, at the 34th São Paulo State Tourism Fair, TAP Portugal took top spot as the Best International Airline.
TAP and the environment. TAP Portugal recently introduced a more environmentally friendly amenity kit, replacing synthetic material with natural and recycled materials. Personal hygiene products are free of sulphates, parabens, phthalates and artificial coloring. In recognition of the effort, Travel Plus, an online UK publication for frequent flyers, named TAP Portugal’s in-flight amenity kits the Best Ethically/Sustainable Amenity Kit. And the in-flight magazine earned kudos in the annual CSS Awards recognizing excellence in website design.
TAP Portugal’s frequent flyer program, the Victoria Programme, is now available on your iPhone, iPad or Android device. To join, or to learn more, visit tapvictoria.com.
