This year, travelers have the opportunity to step back in time and experience life in the 18th century. The Distinctly Hospitable Group purchased Hawkstone Hall, a Grade 1-listed mansion set within 88 acres of gardens in England’s Shrewsbury countryside. Now the fourth owner in the property’s 550-year history, the company plans a refurbishment to restore the Georgian property to its former splendor.
Originally built in 1707 as a stately home before falling under the care of Catholic missionaries until June 2017, the 43,400-square-foot home will transform into one of the most opulent hotels in the United Kingdom.
Surrounding the mansion are manicured lawns, lush gardens, orchards, an ancient cemetery, a forested area, footpaths and the property’s original 18th-century lily pond. The tranquil outdoor environment will complement the hotel’s refined interior, complete with grand, sculpted ceilings; beautiful antique furniture; double staircases; and impeccably designed yet comfortable guestrooms.
There will be 12 suites, including the extravagant honeymoon suite, all named after Jane Austen characters, in addition to 28 bedrooms. In each room, color tones will mirror those of the main hall, featuring soft blues and pinks.
Hawkstone Hall is set to welcome its first guests summer 2018.
