The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration cleared Boeing’s new Dreamliner variant, the Boeing 787-10, for commercial service after 900 hours of testing with three planes.

The company’s newest Dreamliner started its test flights last spring and finally received an amended type certificate from the FAA. This opens the door for Boeing to meet orders for the first 787-10 for Singapore Airlines, to deliver in the first half of 2018. The carrier has 50 planes on order.

Nine customers including Etihad Airways, EVA Air, United Airlines and British Airways, ordered more than 170 787-10 Dreamliners. Emirates plans to buy 40 of the new planes.

The 787-10 is the longest in Boeing’s Dreamliner family and can hold 330 passengers in a two-class configuration.

“We are pleased to have met the rigorous standards set forth by the FAA and are eager to bring the airplane to market for our valued customers,” said Brad Zaback, vice president and general manager of the 787 program, Boeing. “After years of design and testing, our team has proven the quality, safety and reliability of the newest member of the Dreamliner family and we look forward to seeing the airplane in service later this year.”

The plane still needs approval from other aviation regulatory bodies around the world, though Boeing said it expects the plane to pass with flying colors.
