When you work in the travel industry or have a job that requires you to be on the road all the time, it can be tricky to figure out what is best for your pet(s). Confirming all of your flight and hotel arrangements can be a daunting task in and of itself, but once you add a pet to the mix, it can easily get overwhelming.
While it may not be the most popular time to venture to the Jersey shore, autumn is my favorite time of the year to visit the area. While the weather can be questionable, there’s something about the way the air feels in fall at the beach — it’s cleaner, clearer, crisper somehow, and the ocean breeze offers just the right chill. After a mid-October weekend in Stone Harbor with my fiancé, the comments on my Instagram and Facebook pictures indicated others feel the same about autumn at the beach.
I’m writing from London this week! I’m representing FXExpress Publications, Inc. at the annual World Travel Market conference in London, featuring booths of international and some U.S. travel partners in hospitality, tourism, airlines, car rentals and many other industries. I have had the opportunity to meet many professionals as I have explored the floor and am quite impressed with the variety and professionalism all around me.
Barring the apocalypse, if it's the first weekend in November, you can be sure my husband and I will be in Walla Walla for the southeast Washington wine region's Fall Release festivities. This year we arrived early Thursday afternoon to get in some tasting before the crowds arrived on Friday, and we were greeted with rather chilly but sunny, hazy weather following our drive up the Columbia Gorge from Portland.
Another busy month! While October felt like one of the longest months of the year so far, I think November is on its way to beating it. But before we get wrapped up in the Thanksgiving festivities, it is worth sharing the cool creations Global Traveler’s annual pumpkin carving competition brought this year.
On my last flight I noticed almost everyone was plugged into a device with headphones to watch a movie, do work or email, read an e-book or listen to music. I was one of just a handful of people reading an actual printed book. My seatmate and I clashed over whether the window shade should be closed, enabling him to view his digital screen, or remain open so I could read a book by natural daylight. (I find it difficult to read with the little overhead spotlight.) The digital reader won since the natural light really prevented him from viewing his screen.
Now that Halloween is over and it’s officially the start of the holiday season, it’s time to think about New Year’s Eve plans. Looking to get out of the house but don’t want to be surrounded by crowds? Check out some of the events going on at LUMA Hotel Times Square.
Thessaloniki is the second-largest city of Greece and the most important center of the area. Built near the sea, elegant and refined, the Greek “Lady of the North” is a modern, vivacious city that welcomes visitors eager to learn about its history and culture, and at the same time have fun, relax, go shopping or simply explore the cityscape by the sea.
Alaska Airlines recently debuted its new Pixar-inspired, special-edition aircraft livery. On both sides of the Pixar-themed Boeing 737-800 aircraft, travelers spot recognizable faces from the Toy Story franchise, including Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Jessie. Rex the Tyrannosaurus appears on the boarding door and the little green aliens show up on the aircraft’s winglets.
Chef Philip Guardione used to spend his days and nights on Manhattan’s Prince and Spring streets, where his popular restaurants Piccola Cucina Enoteca and Piccola Cucina Osteria attract locals and tourists who love his Sicilian-inspired cuisine as well as the street scene in the vibrant SoHo neighborhood.
United Airlines’ environmentally friendly efforts lessen the impact on local U.S. communities.
The New InterContinental San Juan is officially reopening next month. The opening marks the completion of the property’s first major renovation in more than 20 years.
Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok completed renovations on its River Wing, concluding the hotel’s most extensive renovations in nearly 150 years. The River Wing redesign followed restorations of the hotel’s Authors’ and Garden wings. Newly renovated guestrooms and suites feature updated facilities, but maintain the hotel’s signature Thai elegance. The renovations also increased the number of suites in the wing, as well as enlarged guestrooms with views of the Chao Phraya River.
Welcome to Rhodes, a medieval treasure beautifully preserved throughout the centuries. Rhodes is the capital of the Dodecanese, an island ideal not only for those who want to relax, but also for those looking for an action-packed holiday! With its bright green hills, rich green valleys and uninterrupted line of golden beaches, Rhodes is truly a blessed place. “The sun island” has more sunshiny days and milder temperatures throughout the year than any other location in Greece. It is, after all, one of the country’s easternmost places and among the first to welcome summer on its impressive beaches. Add in the excellent facilities for tourism, the island’s special blend of cosmopolitan and traditional, and numerous cultural and archaeological sites, the most important being the Medieval (Old) Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and you’ve got the perfect holiday destination. While on Rhodes, don’t miss a daytrip to nearby Sými. An island of sponge divers and seamen, Sými used to have 30,000 inhabitants before the Second World War and was the richest island in the Dodecanese, despite its small size. Today, Sými attracts many visitors thanks to its beautifully preserved Neo-Classical buildings and the famous Archangel Michael monastery at Panormitis.
