Hitting the Links and the Cages

Because it was a beautiful day yesterday, my friends and I decided to hit the links. As I have previously written, I am not a golfer, nor do I even really like golf, but these links were the novelty type — or miniature golf — at the Bunny Hutch in Lincolnwood, Illinois.

A Garden’s Gifts

Back in February, before COVID-19 had blown up into a worldwide pandemic, I was already anticipating an early spring harvest of lettuce and spinach, planted at the end of an unusually mild and relatively dry January. My raised beds and a homemade "greenhouse" fashioned over them with PVC pipe and heavy-duty plastic drop cloths created a sheltered environment that encouraged lush growth in spite of chilly nights. By the time the middle of March rolled around and Oregon's governor enacted stay-at-home orders as the virus spread and infection rates climbed, my salad greens were ready for harvest. A weekly event, Friday Nights on the Patio is again on my calendar for this week.

Return of Live Sports?

For the past couple of months, sports came to a halt, and the only games on TV are reruns of past games, of which everyone already knows the ending. The funny thing is, people still watch these games and get mad again, even though they know what’s going to happen.

Back on Track

Having reached six weeks since my gallbladder removal and with the okay from my doctor, I ventured to the Evanston lakefront for a run. I have done light exercise at home, including daily walks, but this was my first time really working out.
