In my last blog, I wrote about my flight to Germany on Condor Airlines’ business class, and now it’s time to get into a full recap of my trip — starting in Tegernsee.
After landing in Frankfurt and gathering our luggage, we hopped in the car for a five-hour car ride to a quaint countryside town called Tegernsee, Bavaria. As we pulled up to the town, we were greeted by views of stunning mountains, a crystal-clear lake and charming buildings. To get to our hotel, we had to drive all the way around the lake and through the town, so we got a glimpse of the destination we’d explore over the next couple of days.
We pulled up to Althoff Seehotel and were met by Simone and Vincent Ludwig, managing director. As I entered my room, I was stunned by the size and beauty of it. The first thing I did was check out the long balcony that offered breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding town. Then I explored the rest of the room, which had a living area separate from the bedroom, a sitting area, a half bathroom, TV, credenza, snacks laid out on the coffee table and a bottle of German beer.
After a quick nap, I got ready in my spacious full bathroom for drinks and dinner. I headed to the restaurant for a special tasting event hosted by German celebrity chef Alexander Herrmann. The seven-course tasting menu offered unique flavors and dishes paired with tasty wine.
The next morning I set out on a horse-drawn carriage around town. We got to see houses, a closer view of the mountains, some local attractions like a mountain cable car ride, the shops and restaurants in town, and learned some of the history of the shops and town itself.
After the carriage ride, we had lunch at the hotel’s Italian restaurant, which was delicious, and then set out on the town in search of some traditional dirndls, or dresses. Bavarian women wear these dresses to dinners, weddings and other special occasions.
I had a facial scheduled for late afternoon, so I headed back to the hotel to wash my makeup off and get changed. My facial was so relaxing I even fell asleep for a little bit.
That night we had fondue dinner — delicious! Afterwards, to celebrate our time in Tegernsee, we enjoyed one last drink at the lobby bar but ended the night early since we had to travel to our next destination in the morning.
Stay tuned for more from my Germany adventure.
