NEW YEAR. NEW LOOK. That’s right — this month we officially debut a refreshed appearance from cover to cover. As you flip through the pages, you’ll not only notice the aesthetic changes, but you will also find new questions for our chefs and travel executives; a new template for our GT Tested reviews, where we bring you the Top Takeaways from each experience; and Bucket List, our newest destination article, highlighting an exclusive, unique experience. We start with a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, Spain, on page 72. Months of preparation throughout 2016 led to the tweaks and changes you’ll find in this issue, and we hope you are as excited by them as we are. At GT, we pride ourselves on continually evolving and never staying stagnant, much like our readers and their travel experiences. Kudos to our art director, Tracey Cullen, for her tireless efforts in updating Global Traveler.
Speaking of new looks, turn to page 36 for more from Chef Jerry McLoughlin of United Airlines. He’s responsible for crafting onboard menus, including those served on Polaris, the carrier’s new and very different business-class experience. And then there’s LATAM Airlines Group, which underwent big changes in 2016 to become the airline we get to know now in our first-ever Airline Update on page 42. Airports around the globe are working on their exterior looks with all-important runway updates and additions, highlighted on page 46. In my picture here, Banu Yilmaz and I enjoy a fantastic lunch at Al Mahara at Burj Al Arab Jumeirah just weeks after it debuted its new appearance. GT is in good company as we emerge renewed.
Where else do we venture on this around-the-world trip? In this issue we visit Puerto Rico, Tel Aviv, Austin, Xiamen, Busan, Bogotá, the Loire Valley and Goa.
Next month we settle into 2017 with a closer look at luxury auto experiences and best practices for managing business travel. Until then, enjoy the new you and the new us of the New Year.
