Strengthening its appeal as more than a connection or stopover point, Panamá recently announced a series of new initiatives to encourage international travelers to stay longer and experience the destination in a more immersive way. Part of these initiatives includes no-cost tourist insurance for eligible international tourists, with coverage automatically available during the first 10 days of their stay. No additional payment or registration is required.

Coverage includes hospitalization and medical expenses of up to $15,000; medical transportation within Panama of up to $10,000; and medical repatriation of up to $50,000. Coverage also spans emergency dental care and other assistance.

The no-cost tourist insurance is funded by the state through the Panamá Tourism Authority.

“We want those who visit Panamá to feel supported from the moment they arrive in the country. That is why every international visitor entering through our participating airports will have access to free medical coverage during their first ten days of stay, with no additional paperwork. This initiative reinforces our commitment to providing a safe, reliable, and high-quality experience for those who choose us as their destination,” said Gloria De León, Minister of Tourism, Panama.

Time Travel: The World’s Best Aviation Museums Let Visitors Fly Into the Past

The desire to fly is lodged deep in the human psyche. Aside from the common dream of being airborne, references abound in old tales and myths. In the epic poem Shahnameh by long-ago Persian poet Ferdowsi, the fabled King Kai-Káús possessed a flying throne that was drawn into the sky and held aloft by a team of colossal eagles. Built of gold and wood, this throne craft may not have been aerodynamic in design or particularly comfortable to travel in, but it managed to bear the daring king all the way to China.
