Art Deco, the 1920s-era style of architecture and design noted for bold lines and simple shapes, is evident across Brussels. Add a day or two to your business trip to take in the best of Art Deco.
Start at Van Buuren Museum and Gardens, a private estate built between 1924 and 1928 featuring Art Deco architectural elements, carpets, furniture and glassware as well as paintings and sculptures from the 15th to 20th centuries.
Experience live music, festivals and cinema at Flagey, an arts organization housed in a 1930s-era Art Deco building designed by Belgian architect Joseph Diongre. The heart of the facility is Studio 4, whose acoustics are close to perfection. Visitors can take a guided tour on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 12–5 p.m.

Walk or lunch in the picture-perfect Ambiorix Square, featuring formal, geometric gardens surrounded by Art Deco architecture in the heart of the European District. This “Central Park” of sorts was named for Belgian national hero Ambiorix, who led the resistance of a Belgian Gallic tribe against the rule of Julius Caesar.
