You can’t be in Macau long before hearing about its most talked-about annual event, the Macau Grand Prix. First held in 1954 and running its 61st competition Nov. 13–16, it attracts competitors from around the world for its motorcycle and Formula 3 races that, as in Monaco, zoom through town on winding streets lined with spectators. The best drivers complete the 3.25-mile Guia Circuit, considered one of the most challenging circuits in the world, in about two minutes and 20 seconds as they maneuver curves on Guia Hill, tight corners and the straightaway near the Macau Ferry Terminal. Note, however, because the event draws more than 100,000 spectators, race tickets, hotel rooms and ferry seats from Hong Kong are in short supply.

For visitors who can’t make the race, there’s the Grand Prix Museum, which displays race cars and motorcycles from past competitions, information on iconic drivers, a video highlighting races and simulators that give participants the chance to experience the thrill of racing the Guia Circuit.
