Hong Kong has a number of major projects in the works. Scheduled for a 2019 opening, M+ will serve as the new museum for visual culture in Hong Kong, focusing on 20th– and 21st-century art, design and architecture and the moving image. The museum will be part of the West Kowloon Cultural District, a growing cultural quarter for Hong Kong dedicated to bringing to public view local and international artists. Other highlights of the district include a park; the M+ Pavilion exhibition and event center; and the Xiqu Centre, a performing arts venue. Built in 1951 as the Police Married Quarters, the PMQ has been revitalized into a hub for the design and creative industries, with artists’ studios and pop-up shops as well as event space for public and private use. The space brings together shopping and dining and offers The Qube and Courtyard areas for private business functions.
