American companies have strict policies about business travel compared to their international colleagues and U.S. business travelers tend to understand and follow their employers’ rules, according to a new report from American Express Global Business Travel.
The 2018 Global Business Travel Report is based on surveys conducted by research firm Gfk. It found 78 percent of U.S. business travelers said they were extremely familiar with their corporate travel policies — much higher than the rate reported by travelers from Australia, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Singapore and India.
U.S. business travelers were also most likely — 67 percent — to say their corporate travel polices are “strict.”
About 40 percent of U.S. business travelers said they violate policies, compared to 79 percent of travelers from Singapore, 67 percent from Germany, 66 percent from India, 64 percent from France, 61 percent from the U.K., and 52 percent from Australia.
Not all the reasons for breaking policy were bad, though: Most said they go outside policy at times to save their company money.
