Welcome to The Wellness Issue! There is nothing more satisfying than stopping by the spa at the end of a long business day. Relaxing and zoning out after the hustle and bustle of the day helps you recharge your batteries for the travel ahead. So many
properties have noteworthy spas; InterContinental Hotels & Resorts comes to mind, as do the spas on Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

Please note the recap of our Entrepreneurial & Business Travel Symposium from this past January. An interesting round of presentations and sessions included one hosted by IHG Business Edge and the other by TAP Air Portugal. Attendees flew in from all over the country to take advantage of the valuable insights.

Recently we’ve heard a great deal about a decline in travel etiquette. Today at the airport I witnessed some of this: pajama flyers, big open yawners and overall sloppy-looking travelers. But there is nothing worse than the bloviating businessmen (and they are always men) pontificating on their phone at a volume usually reserved for a sporting event. Perhaps they think I am interested in their business (I am not), or maybe they are trying to prove themselves. I am sure their staff cannot wait for their daily 9 a.m. call. The lounges are more crowded than ever, and, wow, are there a lot of families traveling!

Lounge membership provides a real value to families, as the cost of eating in airports has become astronomical and the convenience of a lounge cannot be overstated.

We just completed the 14th Leisure Lifestyle Awards at InterContinental Miami, and it was a great success. Please keep an eye out for the August issue, which will recap the event and all the festivities. And speaking of August, we will present The Trazees and Wherever Awards at The Peninsula Chicago on Aug. 3. One of the most beautiful and service-oriented hotels in the world will welcome our winners and readers along with many of the travel executives attending the Global Business Travel Association convention at McCormick Place that week.

Global Traveler has contracted to be the magazine targeting the top hotels in the city during the conference. We’re excited to announce the details of our next hosted trip with Global Traveler subscribers: Join us and be among the first in the world to sail brand-new Transcend Cruises. We’ll cruise the Rhine River on this exclusive sailing, not yet open to the public, Oct. 29–Nov. 5.

Designed for Global Traveler, this limited-access departure offers a rare opportunity to be part of something few will ever experience. In addition, I hope to join the World Travel & Tourism Council’s annual World Summit in Malta, also in October. It seems there is no hotter destination for travel than Malta, proven by Delta Air Lines’ announcement it will addMalta to its growing list of destinations this summer.

The last WTTC I attended was in Doha, but another team member attended since, in Riyadh in 2022. I look forward to visiting Malta, recently recognized for Outstanding Social Responsibility in our Leisure Lifestyle Awards. Enjoy your travels, and remember to explore new destinations in wellness!
