Arrival/Check-in: I arrived in New York City on a brisk winter day and couldn’t wait to be indoors, free from the cold weather. When I walked through the main entrance of The Pierre, I instantly felt better. Every hotel staff member greeted me with a smile and a hello. I entered from a side entrance, and after looking a bit lost in the lobby, I was kindly directed to the reception desk. Check-in was easy and took a matter of minutes. I was relieved when the bellhop immediately took my heavy luggage and brought my belongings to me once I was situated in the room. As the receptionist escorted me to my room, she provided helpful information about the hotel and its many services. (29/30)
Guest Quarters: I could not have been more satisfied with my one-bedroom suite. The room provided the perfect amount of space. I walked into the living area and saw a beautiful antique wooden bureau and desk at either side of the room. A glass coffee table was in the middle of the room, next to two elegant cushioned chairs and a couch. I made the most use out of the desk, which provided proper space and equipment to work. Next to the living area was a small, efficient kitchen.
The newly renovated bathroom exuded pure luxury, lined in Turkish marble. A large mirror reflected a small, flat-screen television, which hung on the opposite wall above a luxurious marble-clad bathtub. My favorite feature was the oversized showerhead in the floor-to-ceiling glass shower. Last, but certainly not least, I entered the bedroom to find a king-sized bed draped in a light tan and coral bedspread and adorned with large, fluffy pillows. The bed was unbelievably comfortable and ideal for a good night of sleep, especially after a long day. (29/30)
Services/Amenities: While my stay was short, I was fortunate to have time to visit Two E Bar and Lounge, opened in June 2009. I arrived at happy hour and ordered a signature drink, the White Cosmopolitan. The bar and lounge staff were accommodating and, within minutes, delivered my drink, mixed with fresh lemon and white cranberry juice. The assortment of cheeses, olives and crisp potato chips made an ideal light snack before heading to dinner. Two E offered a low-key, comfortable atmosphere and was an excellent start to my night. During my next visit, I look forward to dining in the hotel’s restaurant, Le Caprice. A well-known social establishment and avant-garde eatery in London, Le Caprice made its U.S. debut at The Pierre. (38/40)
The Experience: The Pierre exceeded my expectations, offering elegance, history and outstanding hospitality. From check-in to check-out, The Pierre’s staff made every effort to make me feel informed, satisfied and, most important, welcomed.

Sep 17, 2026High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture
It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
