Travelers flying on Qantas domestic flights will soon have access to media from Foxtel, Netflix and Spotify using the airline’s free in-flight WiFi. And the news gets even better: You don’t have to subscribe to any of these to enjoy the libraries when you fly.
Qantas customers will be able to access the services for free both on and off the aircraft for three days to one month after the flight, depending on the service. Foxtel will offer three days of free access each time a customer flies Qantas; Netflix’s library will be offered as part of a 30-day free trial for new members, while existing members can log on without charge; and Spotify will give a free 30-day trial of its Premium music service, which allows users to listen without commercials.
Travelers will be required to sign up for a subscription to access the Netflix and Spotify trials, though no sign-up is necessary for Foxtel’s free access.
“We know that email, online shopping and general web browsing will be popular uses when we switch on WiFi, but what a lot of people relish about flying is being able to catch up on their favorite TV shows or watch movies they didn’t get to see at the cinema,” said Olivia Wirth, group executive of brand, marketing and corporate affairs, Qantas. “Foxtel and Netflix both have huge catalogues that are expanding all the time, so there will be no shortage of entertainment on board.”
