The Perot Museum of Nature and Science, along with the University of the Witwatersrand and the National Geographic Society, brings two recently discovered ancient human relative fossils to the museum during a limited-run exhibition.
“Origins: Fossils from the Cradle of Humankind” is the first exhibit of ancient hominin fossils since the public display of “Lucy,” 2007–2013. The new fossils, discovered in 2008 and 2013, are some of the most complete hominin skeletons and provide evidence of new, ancient, human relatives. The planned exhibit combines years of scientific research from scientists located all over the world.
“As humans, we are innately compelled to explore and understand our origins, and this exhibition provides an extraordinary and historic opportunity to come face-to-face with two newly discovered species of our ancient human relatives,” said Dr. Linda Silver, Eugene McDermott CEO, Perot Museum. “The fossils featured in Origins have never been displayed outside South Africa — and probably never will be again. The Perot Museum is honored to host the exclusive exhibition of these significant specimens and thrilled to have our scientists involved in their actual discovery.”
The exhibit is slated to open Oct. 19, and runs through March 22, 2020.
