Outdoor Watches

Dec 20, 2015

For the adventurous traveler, finding the perfect watch capable of handling any excursion can present a challenge. Having something that can take a beating is key, and thankfully a number of watch manufacturers make luxury timepieces as rough and tumble as any outdoor enthusiast. Whether you’re diving off the coast of the Galapagos, trekking through the Andes or just spending an afternoon on the lake, these four watches are ready for anything you can throw at them.

Omega Seamaster Ploprof 1200M
For watersports enthusiasts, Omega offers one of the most amazing dive watches money can buy. Paying tribute to Omega’s classic vintage dive watches, the chunky Ploprof handles depths to a remarkable 4,000 feet under the surface. While not the kind of dive watch you can tuck under a suit cuff, the Ploprof is more than capable of tagging along on your next dive trip or beach vacation. $9,700.

Breitling Emergency II
For the really serious risk-taker for whom solo expeditions into the unknown are always an option, the Breitling Emergency II has a little trick up its sleeve that trumps its competition. This is the first watch to include a built-in, dual-frequency personal locator beacon. The original Breitling Emergency saw huge success in the aviation industry, aiding numerous search-and-rescue missions since its launch in 1995. Whether you’re prone to getting lost in the woods or you log a lot of hours in the air, the Emergency II could make all the difference in your survival should anything go awry. $15,825–18,745.

Bremont MBIII
Bremont watches are known for their combination of bulletproof construction and beautiful design, and the MBIII — named after Martin Baker, a British company known for supplying the majority of the world’s aviation ejection seat technology — is no exception. This sleek and easy-to-read GMT has been tested to maintain accuracy under the same g-force load experienced when ejecting from a jet fighter, making it an ideal candidate for any high-velocity activity. $5,995.

Suunto Elementum Terra
In cases where usable data outweighs the value of sheer style, the Suunto Elementum Terra line provides an excellent alternative to the conventional wristwatch. Loaded with features like an altimeter, a 3D compass and a barometer/weather trend indicator, the Elementum Terra makes the perfect partner for hikers, climbers and backcountry skiers. A handful of colors and strap options ensure you’re well-coordinated as well as well-informed. $899–1,199.
