This November, Dromoland Castle is set to close its doors for six months for its largest redevelopment in its 63 years as a hotel. Set to reopen in June 2027, the 16th-century property in County Clare will debut a one-of-a-kind transformation with updates to accommodations, public spaces, wellness facilities, culinary features and more.
The main focus will be the glass-enclosed Atrium, reimagining the castle’s historic courtyard into a year-round gathering space for morning coffee, afternoon tea and nightly cocktails.
Sitting outside the main castle, the newly renovated Walled Garden Collection features 13 accommodations within the converted former stables, perfect for larger groups. The building is tucked within centuries-old walled gardens and overlooks a yew tree gallery dating back to 1740.
Additionally, 16 guestrooms and five suites will comprise the new The Heritage Collection, taking over an entire floor in a wing across from the castle’s main entrance. Once the project is completely finished, Dromoland Castle will feature 121 accommodations in total, including two private lodges for long-term stays.
Keeping the property’s architectural structure and Ireland’s rich country-house tradition, the redesign celebrates local craftsmanship through regional materials like Connemara marble, the country’s national stone, as well as bespoke metalwork, linen, wool and velvets. The redesign also includes a collaboration with Ulster Carpets, the Northern Irish company commissioned to create the ceremonial carpet for the Coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey.
Wellness is a main priority in Dromoland Castle’s redevelopment. New experiences will be built around existing experiences like forest bathing in the ancient woodlands, guided meditation in the Whisper Room and Dr. Barbara Sturm skincare treatments. Next summer, the castle will debut glass-fronted saunas on the shores of Lough Dromoland, the property’s private lake.

Sep 30, 2026Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley
Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
