Oklahoma City began construction on a new convention center, scheduled to open in 2020. The $288 million project broke ground in October 2018.

Once open, the new convention center will offer a 200,000-square-foot exhibit hall, a 30,000-square-foot ballroom and 45,000 additional square feet of meeting space.

“This is a great day for Oklahoma City,” said Mike Carrier, president, Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau, on the day of the ceremonial ground-breaking. “This totally new convention center marks a significant milestone in OKC’s commitment to the meetings and convention industry.”

The convention center joins other architecture in the vicinity, including a new park set to open in 2019 and a new property from Omni Hotel and Resorts, set to open in 2020.

The convention center is the largest single construction project ever undertaken in Oklahoma City.

“Meeting planners are going to be wowed by Oklahoma City’s new offerings,” said Dennis Johnston, vice president of sales, MAPS 3. “And the fact that the center will open debt-free really sets Oklahoma City apart.”
