Loyal JetBlue travelers now have a new level of airfare when booking a flight: The Blue Basic fare is JetBlue’s version of a basic-economy fare where the tickets are cheap and the extra services are limited or cost extra.
Passengers can choose their own seats, but only 24 hours before the flight is due to take off. Blue Basic passengers also board in the last boarding group. Blue Basic passengers will be able to access free in-flight WiFi and bring one carry-on bag, pending the availability of overhead bin space after all other groups board.
The discount airline joins other major airlines with this tier of pricing in hopes of catering to no-frills travelers who just want to fly as cheaply as possible. Airline officials hope travelers will be willing to shell out extra money in order to keep the benefits they’re accustomed to as a JetBlue passenger.
