LAX Completes Largest Airline Relocation in Airport History

Travelers passing through Los Angeles International Airport May 12–16 got to witness a massive airline relocation project, a shift to new terminals and new ticket counters. The so-called LAX on the Move project was the largest of its kind in airport history.

A full one-third of the carriers operating out of LAX moved operations during the five-day span. Leading up to the shuffle, LAX encouraged travelers to plan ahead by checking in online, printing or downloading boarding passes before leaving home and double-checking gate information before coming to the airport. Officials also suggested getting to the airport earlier than usual.

The biggest component of the project involved moving Delta Air Lines’ operations into LAX’s Terminal 2 and 3 and connecting those terminals to the Tom Bradley International Terminal. Travelers were greeted by Delta employees in bright green vests offering to help sort through any confusion and a green bus transported travelers between Terminals 2 and 3 and Terminals 5 and 6 as needed.

All moves were undertaken after the final flight of the day was complete.
