On a pristine white-sand beach, La Coralina Island House sits on an entire bay in Bocas del Toro. Whether you take the one-hour flight from Panama City or a 90-minute flight from San José in Costa Rica, you are met with wellness and luxury on Panama’s northern coastline. The innovative boutique resort offers spectacular views of the ocean and a sense of relaxed seclusion, an idyllic escape for an ocean getaway.

Upon entry through its welcoming, Balinese-inspired, open-air lobby, you are surrounded by a soundtrack of whispering coconut palms and the sigh of the turquoise Caribbean Sea. Conceived as the ultimate in outdoor living and sustainable architecture, you enter this tropical dream house with its vivid yellows, glowing reds, cool blues and lush greens. Evoking the riches of Southeast Asia, the tropical Asian style can be seen throughout the property with accents of wood, textiles and earthenware.

Under one of the breezy verandas or gazing out to the ocean horizon in one of the outdoor pavilions, the tranquil environment is present, but, most importantly, not forced. From the hypnotic sunsets that lead to bright, star-filled skies, you immediately embrace the art of island living. The lush tropical gardens surround the sleek infinity pool, which is best during the golden hour (from 5 to 7 p.m., mostly all year), to enjoy a refreshing and creative cocktail like the Tropical Ron (rum, pineapple juice, coconut cream and lemon), overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

Besides dining by the pool, the food at the property’s on-site dining establishments is a mix of Latin American flair with the best Caribbean recipes. From tropical fruit bowls for breakfast to the chef’s menu for dinner (the lobster bisque is a house specialty), grabbing a cocktail and strolling to the soft white-sand beach during sunset is truly special.

With 23 rooms and eight gorgeous villas, accommodations are luxurious and designed to create a comfortable and elegant stay. Staying at the two-floor Grand Villa presented the opportunity to immerse in unparalleled privacy and luxury.

While there, a must is snorkeling on Isla Solarte, as the marine biodiversity is breathtaking. As a more active traveler, hiking in Bastimentos National Park affords spectacular views and encounters with exotic wildlife, while if you travel during the right season, you can see nesting marine turtles at Bluff Beach.

And as the property prioritizes wellness, it was truly a treat to retreat to La Coralina Island Spa to experience the signature therapeutic massage with an osteopathic and dynamic neuromuscular stabilization approach. The treatment melds traditional techniques with local herbs for a revitalizing experience. Hidden in the tropical rain forest, which just added to the mystique and blissful experience, the spa offers treatments from local culture and the region’s ancient traditions and forgotten wisdom.

Due to its location, temperatures stay between 70 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit year-round, ideal for a sunny, carefree getaway. The fun-filled adventure started with a welcome drink, continued with the abundance of wildlife and views throughout the property, and concluded with the signature spa treatment, one to remember.

Bask in Nature’s Tranquility at The Spa at Four Seasons Tamarindo

When the two of us entered The Spa at Four Seasons Tamarindo, past the backlit boutique items and local artisan-painted wood carvings, the place wrapped us in a feeling of tranquility. Its stone walls, earth tones, woven wall hangings and furniture made of natural materials reminded us we are part of nature’s spectrum, the abundant windows showing native plants and trees outside.
