Following its release on Netflix last month, The Queen’s Gambit has become the streaming service’s most-watched show of all time. It also inspired a renewed interest in chess, with chessboard sales up 603 percent year over year. As a result, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants is launching a chessboard lending program at select properties.
Guests can check out a chess set and play the game in their own rooms. Select properties will also have a Queen’s Gambit-inspired cocktail available for purchase. The participating properties include Kimpton Armory Hotel, with The White Lady cocktail; Kimpton Cardinal Hotel, with the Check Mate beverage; and Kimpton Hotel Zandt and its Sicilian Defense cocktail. Other properties are Kimpton Journeyman, Kimpton Monaco Denver, Kimpton Monaco Philadelphia, Kimpton Monaco Pittsburgh, Kimpton Monaco Salt Lake City, Kimpton Muse Hotel, Kimptom Palomar Philadelphia and Kimpton Shorebreak Resort.
The Queen’s Gambit cocktail at Kimpton Journeyman includes honeycomb-infused Lustau manzanilla sherry, Ketel One vodka, vanilla, cardamom, lime and rose hip must. At Kimpton Shorebreak, the Play It Like a Girl cocktail is shaken, stirred and streamed to a coupe glass to enjoy.
