Classic and elegant in every possible detail, The Milestone Hotel & Residence has long been one of London’s preferred addresses. Set streetside in Kensington across from Kensington Gardens, this historic, Grade II-listed building’s Stables Bar has recently undergone a lovely renovation.

The restful, refined ambience has been enhanced with original artwork from noted Belgian sporting artist Elie Lambert, tartan-clad furnishings, and an updated dining and drinks menu sparked by the imagination of Resident Bar Manager Angelo Lo Greco and Executive Chef Daniel Putz. Guests can also choose to hold private gatherings in The Hideaway, next to the bar.
Enjoy the newly refurbished setting while sipping a vintage wine, chilled glass of Champagne; international beer; specialty coffee drink; freshly brewed tea; herbal infusion; or fragrant, aged whiskey. The menu of classic and creative cocktails includes drinks with names that play on the property’s horsey vibe, such as Rocking Horse, made with Broken Clock Vodka, passionfruit, lemon and ginger beer; Gallop to Greatness with Remy Martin VSOP, blackberry, Lanson Champagne and orange blossom mist; and Wild & Free, made with Eight Lands Gin, fermented nectarine and chili, Fig Leaf Liqueur, lemon, and egg white.

Traveling to London over the holidays? Book a festive dinner, cocktail reception or private party this season, and you’ll have the option of adding a truly memorable amenity to your festivities: The property’s very own artist-in-residence can be reserved to create bespoke portraits of you and your traveling companions. Plan a holiday-themed Festive Afternoon Tea (with or without Champagne), and enjoy a menu of sweets and savories from a selection that includes truffled egg mayonnaise with Hampshire watercress, honey-roasted ham and cranberry, Mrs. T’s baked vanilla cheesecake, caramel apple bavarois, and chocolate and clementine layer cake.

May 27, 2025Plan a Legendary Gathering in Honolulu
Myths and origin stories form a powerful framework for the history of Hawai‘i. Marking the horizon behind Honolulu, the ancient volcanic formation of Lē‘ahi — technically a volcanic tuff cone more commonly known to the world as Diamond Head — provides a constant physical reminder of the tales that shaped the history of this location. While researching legends for my Hawai‘i-based Dark Paradise Mysteries series (Kensington Books), I learned the tale of the demigod Maui, who used his enchanted fishing hook to reach into the sea to heave the Hawaiian islands, including Diamond Head, above the surface of the water.
