British travel brand New Scientist Discovery Tours invites those with curious minds to join them for a science-inspired tour, cruise or expedition to provide a memorable and deeply enriching encounter with the world. Categories include history, archaeology, nature, astrology, marine, archaeology and “weekenders” — devoted to long holiday weekend journeys.

No scientific training or background is necessary. Guests are led by experts such as astrophysicist Dr. John Mason, who guides travelers on the Total Solar Eclipse Tour in Spain; or archaeologist Dr. Rebecca Wragg Sykes, who leads the Neanderthal Origins and Ancient Caves Tour in Southern France.

In June 2025, guests can travel in the company of renowned author Richard Dawkins on an Arctic expedition cruise to Svalbard, Norway. This 12-day cruise includes the Arctic town and world’s northernmost settlement Longyearbyen, set on the rim of Adventfjord and surrounded by glaciers and rugged mountains. Polar bears and other wildlife will be on view, and guests will travel aboard Greg Mortimer, a new state-of-the-art polar expedition vessel.

Among the host of other fascinating journeys is Renaissance Astronomy in Kepler’s Prague: Czech Republic. This six-day expedition includes talks and walking seminars with astronomer Martin Griffiths, stargazing at Stefanik Observatory, a visit to Benatky Castle and the village of Nelahozeves, exploring the UNESCO World Heritage site of Kutna Hora, and accommodations at Art Noveau K+K Hotel Central.

The seven-day Rockies and the Badlands: Geology and Dinosaurs in Canada in June 2025 will be led by Jon Noad, an adjunct professor at Mount Royal University, Calgary, and a visiting research fellow at University of Adelaide. Among the many planned activities are visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites making up the peaks and glacial features of the Banff region of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks, and the fossil-rich Badlands of Dinosaur Provincial Park.

There’s also a private backroom tour of Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology in Drumheller, and tours of dinosaur excavation sites at Dinosaur Provincial Park, where visitors are usually not allowed access. There’s plenty more, too: Visit the New Scientist Discovery Tours website for tours, dates and details including the experts accompanying each journey.

Part of the Ionian Islands located off the western coast of Greece and Albania, it boasts a storied history dating back nearly 3,000 years and a heritage shaped by many foreign rulers who made it their own.

Hotel Van Zandt Review

One step onto Austin’s Rainey Street and you’ll feel like you’ve joined the cool kids at the best playground in the city. Just behind the cottage bars, pint-sized skyscrapers soar. One of them, Hotel Van Zandt, the Rainey district's pièce de resistance, beckons with a song-like spirit —apropos because the independently owned property, rife with music motifs, was named after beloved singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt. Sixteen stories high, the hotel embodies Austin’s lust for music, manifesting with a vinyl corner; trumpet chandeliers; myriad musical references; replica vintage posters in frames; and its own live music venue, which doubles as its acclaimed restaurant, Geraldine’s. Don’t miss the mesmerizing installation of colorful origami-like birds composed from vinyl records that flitter from an old phonograph.
