April showers bring May flowers … and we are all anticipating spring, as many parts of the United States have seen significant travel-disrupting weather. Last fall, Superstorm Sandy hit the Northeast with a big fist; the East and the Midwest experienced a major blizzard in February. Global Traveler’s first Globility Board meeting was scheduled to happen in the middle of Sandy — thankfully, we made the executive decision to cancel and select a date in January. It pained me to do so, but it was the correct decision, as our participants would have been stranded in New York for many days. The meeting summary is in this issue; enjoy their findings.
Keep an eye out for your first copy of the Leisure Lifestyle Book, arriving this month, which will help you make decisions about non-business travel. The issue will also release the results of the Leisure Travel Awards, in which you voted for the best purveyors.
As you read the April issue, I will have already returned from a trip to the Middle East with Wayne Tallman of the GT Advisory Board. We will be on a mission to learn more about our Gulf clients and to play a few rounds of golf for upcoming editions. I am also looking forward to flying Etihad Airways’ first-class product and staying at The Address Hotel Downtown Dubai, both selected by you as best in our GT Tested Reader Survey awards. So far, we have booked the Al Badia Golf Club in Dubai and are searching for a suitable course in Abu Dhabi.
If you picked up this copy in a lounge or a business associate passed it along to you, there is no better time to subscribe. We have a great mileage offer from United MileagePlus. Just go to globaltravelerusa.com/united and sign up to get your bonus miles. The GT website continues to improve, with five original articles every day, our staff blog and the magazine content. The mobile website is also active and a great asset — as is the GT App. Make sure you like us on Facebook and sign up for our Twitter feeds — great stuff for people who travel all the time, like you.
Here’s to the end of winter and some exciting destinations this spring!
