According to a survey by CheapHotels.org, Cancun ranked as 2015’s most expensive destination for New Year’s Eve celebrations. The survey examined 30 destinations from around the globe, comparing the most affordable rates for double guestrooms from Dec. 30 to Jan. 2, at 3-star properties or more, a desirable location and primarily positive ratings from previous guests.
Findings indicated the lowest rate available in Cancun for the specified three nights was around $311, an increase of 274 percent from rates at the same properties later on in the month of January. Following closely behind Cancun was Dubai, with the most affordable rates at around $302, a 176 percent increase. No. 3 on the list? Miami with an increase of 300 percent, to $286.
The most affordable destinations on the list included Buenos Aires, Shanghai and Bogota, where rates could be found for as little as $38. In fact, Bogota room rates actually fell by 8 percent during the Dec. 30–Jan. 2 time period.

Sep 30, 2026Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley
Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
