Historic Cedarburg

I’m keeping my promise of visiting Wisconsin more often. My latest trip was to Cedarburg, about 20 miles north of Milwaukee.

With history dating back to settlement in 1840, Cedarburg retains a historic feel. The several-block stretch of downtown features magnificent architecture along with newer buildings perfectly fitting the quaint vibe.

The main strip has many points of interest. On one end, Frog on a Bench greets visitors and is a popular selfie spot. Along the strip there are so many fascinating details we would have missed if not for our local friends.Cedarburg

A huge mural highlighting Cedarburg’s main attractions is on the side of Up the Creek, a shop filled with unique home furnishings and accessories. Next door is Creekside Antiques, where I picked up a few Milwaukee Brewers bobbleheads.Cedarburg

Cedar Creek, which plunges 80 feet with its run through the small town, is the reason for Cedarburg’s location. There are three dams in Cedarburg.

One of the highlights is Covered Bridge Park, home of Cedarburg Bridge. Originally known as Red Bridge, it is the lone surviving covered bridge (of more than 40 at one point) in Wisconsin. Built in 1876 over Cedar Creek, the bridge is 120 feet long. Now strictly a pedestrian bridge, it was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1973.Cedarburg Cedarburg Cedarburg Cedarburg

We finished our day at Maxwell’s. While enjoying plenty of delicious items, including outstanding and plentiful cheese curds, we cheered as the Milwaukee Brewers edged the New York Yankees 7–6 in extra innings.Maxwell
