June 5 is Hot Air Balloon Day, and what better way to celebrate this unique day than on an unforgettable experience in the air? From soaring over ancient heritage sites in Saudi Arabia to flying over African safaris, these are four destinations you must consider if you’re seeking the ultimate hot-air balloon experience.

Rwanda, Africa

Royal Balloon Rwanda operates the first and only hot-air balloon experience in the country. Each balloon can accommodate four–six guests and climbs as high as 328–3,280 feet. The journey ventures over Akagera National Park, and guests can spot lions, leopards, elephants, black rhinos, buffalos and more below. Royal Balloon Rwanda partners with Rwanda Development Board and Akagera Management Company to align themselves with Rwanda’s long-term sustainable tourism strategy.

Northern Territory, Australia

With Outback Ballooning, guests can soak in views of the majestic West MacDonnell Ranges. This company, operating since 1986, delivers unforgettable journeys over the red landscape. Up in the air, look out for ancient geological wonders, kangaroos, wallabies and Red Centre. After the flight, passengers are invited to enjoy Champagne and tropical fruit juice cocktails.

AlUla, Saudi Arabia

Did you know this destination broke the Guinness World Records title for the World’s Largest Hot Air Balloon Glow Show? In March 2022, 142 hot-air balloons took to the skies at once. Travelers can see the beauty of Saudi Arabia’s northwestern desert themselves on a hot-air balloon. As of this year, guests can experience a hot-air balloon ride year-round. The untethered hot-air balloon tour takes visitors on a 45-minute ride through the clear morning skies and over rock formations, vast deserts and ancient landscapes.
