Located in the Bohemian village of Mcely less than an hour from Prague in the Czech Republic, the magical and infinitely romantic Chateau Mcely Spa Hotel & Forest Retreat is a world unto itself. Each of the 23 named rooms has been painstakingly designed to the tiniest detail to create a luxurious, welcoming environment, with fine linens and rich accents. Each of the two floors follows a distinct theme: the Floor of the World and the Floor of Time. Along with the 17th-century wine cellar known as The Alchemists Club, a sprawling English Park and a studio library with a tower observatory, the property’s stand-alone Bouquet Spa offers traditional herbal aromatherapy rituals with herbs collected in the nearby St. George Forest. Try the Nine Flowers, a nine-step ritual that takes place in the Honey Pavilion wood cottage by the lake; or Rose is a Rose is a Rose, with a rosehip honey body peeling and an application of soothing, moisturizing rose serum. Bring your children when you come to the Czech Republic: Enchantment is on tap from Sept. 9–11, when the chateau hosts the annual Princess Festival. Along with two nights in a room of your choice, daily breakfast buffet, Saturday buffet lunch and Sunday barbecue, events for children ages three years and older begin on Friday evening. The resident nanny will offer a bedtime reading of The Peacock Prince in the chateau’s Golden Hall. Over the weekend, activities include games in the English Park, a formal opening of the festival, a Princess Academy workshop titled “Fun with Etiquette for Princesses and Princes,” a Mermaid Cake cutting, fairytale theater in the park, Le Petite Suzette Fashion Show of fun princess costumes, a princess jewelry workshop, a pirate treasure hunt, horse and pony rides and other surprise events. Parents are covered as well, with a seminar on “How to Raise a Girl, How to Raise a Boy” presented by psychotherapist and lecturer Milan Studnička, along with a presentation by Tomáš Rychnovský, Ph.D.

Oct 7, 2026Review: Prestige Oceanfront Resort
Vancouver Island gets progressively wilder as you leave Victoria behind and follow the coastline west. By the time you reach Sooke, about 45 minutes from the provincial capital, city blocks have surrendered to forests, rocky shoreline, sheltered coves and long views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Prestige Oceanfront Resort rises directly above Sooke Harbour, where boats move across the basin, and the Olympic Mountains form the horizon beyond the strait.

Sep 30, 2026Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley
Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
