March 2024

Let’s face it, if you need to visit the Cayman Islands for work, chances are you’ll have a hard time convincing anyone to feel sorry for you. This British Overseas Territory consisting of three islands — Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman — is a tropical paradise even if you do have to put in hours at the office or in meetings. But when you are off the clock and ready to relax, you’ll be hard-pressed for a location that offers more magic than the Cayman Islands.

Sun-drenched beaches, a world-class dining and shopping scene, and a seemingly endless supply of nature and adventure make the Cayman Islands a precious destination, a place that reminds visitors how important it is to take time to enjoy life and appreciate the beauty of the world around us.

George Town, the territory’s capital and largest town on Grand Cayman, boasts stellar shopping centers where you can purchase gifts for yourself or your loved ones from some of the world’s most prestigious brands. The Bayshore Mall, home to shops like Kirk Freeport and Cartier Boutique, offers the perfect place to shop for luxury watches and jewelry, or you can head just north of George Town to Camana Bay, where you’ll find anything from local snacks and treats to the latest creations from top clothing and jewelry designers.

If you’ve got anywhere from a half to a full day to relax and unwind, head to Rum Point Beach Club to enjoy some quintessential island beach time. About an hour from the capital of George Town, you can easily get to this newly renovated spot by car, taxi or bus. Once there, you’ll find a tropical paradise you won’t want to leave any time soon.

While away the hours digging your toes in the sand, hit the water or simply relax on the shore taking in the view and doing, well, nothing but relaxing and rejuvenating your body and mind. The club offers plenty of water toys for rent such as kayaks, paddleboards, WaveRunners, and snorkeling and scuba diving equipment. You can also catch some live music by a local band while enjoying great food and drinks from Rum Deck or Solis Restaurant.

Though you’ll find many places to enjoy the Golden Hour, that magical time when the sun sets to mark the end of the day, one of the most memorable ways to unwind is with a sunset cruise. Red Sail Sports, which sets sail from Rum Point, allows you to let go of your worries and your tension as you relax aboard a 65-foot luxury catamaran. As the sun dips into the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, your cares will melt away and prepare you for the coming night.

Once the sun goes down, continue the magic with a Bioluminescent Bay tour through the waters of Rum Point. With a sky full of stars above and a dazzling blue glow coming from the micro-organisms in the water below, the experience will take your breath away. The company, which specializes in sustainable tour practices, offers both kayaking tours and electric boat tours through the bay.

Whether you choose to spend your free time in the water, near the water, or pursuing the many attractions and activities around the islands, you will have no trouble enjoying some much-needed R&R, along with plenty of fun and action. Each experience will be one to remember, and you’ll be ready to schedule your next trip to the Cayman Islands.
