Cape Town, South Africa’s cosmopolitan, legislative capital city, sits on the southwest coast, where the sea and famous Table Mountain, noted for its flat top, make for a beautiful backdrop.
There’s much to see and do in Cape Town. Taking the aerial cable car up or hiking Table Mountain, a World Heritage site, tops the must-do list. For an evening of fun, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront doesn’t disappoint. Explore its more than 450 retail outlets and 100-plus restaurants and eateries; and indulge in entertainment like escape rooms, The Cape Wheel and more. Start the night off right with a sunset cruise.
Don’t miss Mojo Market in Sea Point, turning into a lively venue at night featuring food stalls, live events and bars. It doesn’t matter what night you choose, as it’s open daily 8 a.m. to midnight.
Art lovers can get their fix on the first Thursday night of each month, when many art galleries remain open 5–9 p.m. with free admission. Find the action on Bree, Loop and Kloof streets. It’s a lively scene, as some of the bars, restaurants and lounges in the area offer drink specials and live music to keep the vibe flowing.
Experience more of Cape Town’s culture at Artscape Theatre Centre and enjoy a night of local or international plays. The Baxter Theatre Centre is the city’s second-largest performing arts complex. Check listings for its music, dance and other performances. You can enjoy a meal at both theaters.
Look for vibrant nightlife throughout Cape Town. Party beachfront at Cabo Beach Club, whether with a DJ mixing it up or live music. For Hollywood/L.A. panache, head to Saint Champagne Bar & Lounge with its velvet ropes, bottle service and all things VIP. There is no shortage of LGBTQIA+-friendly venues and neighborhoods, especially De Waterkant. Beloved for its theme nights, The Pink Candy Nightclub proves ideal for late-night revelry. Hot spot Zer021 Social Club offers lip sync battles and tournaments, while Beefcakes Burger Bar serves up great burgers and drag queen performances.
