According to the 2023 Booking.com Sustainable Travel Research Report, 75 percent of respondents seek bucket list cultural experiences to immerse themselves in the local culture.
AYANA Resort in Bali strives to provide guests and the public with a taste of local culture with its new Jamu & Spice. The new learning center and concept store offers guests the opportunity to try Jamu, an ancient wellness drink made from local ingredients, often roots and herbs. The drink is thought to bring benefits such as increased immunity and energy. AYANA partnered with Utama Spice and Jamu Bar to help teach guests the magic of Jamu and other Balinese traditions.
The groundbreaking partnership opened in October at AYANA Resort Bali’s shopping arcade. Jamu & Spice offers a space for guests to not only learn about but also shop Indonesia’s ancient Jamu remedies and natural skincare, making it a one-of-a-kind destination for wellness and celebration of Indonesian tradition.
Join 15-minute workshops to craft traditional Jamu blends, herbal teas and natural skincare products. Guests can also learn how to make Javanese lulur for skin cleansing and softening, as well as a Balinese boreh for detoxification and blemish brightening.
“This initiative promises to be more than just a concept store; it’s a gateway to the past that shapes the present and future,” said Giordano Faggioli, general manager, AYANA Resort.
“With Jamu & Spice, we aim to bridge heritage and contemporary living, ensuring that the treasures of traditional jamu and holistic skin care continue to thrive,” said Vanessa Ong, co-founder, Jamu Bar.
“Our mission is to preserve this ancient wisdom for future generations as these plants hold tremendous healing potential, which has been passed down through the ages,” said Ria Templer, co-founder, Utama Spice.

May 21, 2025Hotel Nice Beau Rivage Review
In the city Henri Matisse once called home — and where Musée Matisse holds his largest collection — Hotel Beau Rivage has a special connection with the artist, who first visited the hotel in 1916 and painted famous sea views from his room 89 in 1917. Today, framed Matisse prints — many brightly colored cut-out collages from the artist’s JAZZ collection — decorate its walls. Hotel guests also benefit from a partnership with the museum.
