New York City is the world’s most expensive place to travel on business, according to a new report, with the average business trip to the Big Apple costing an average $549 per day.
The study released by Expert Market shows five of the world’s most expensive places for business travel in the United States are: New York City, San Francisco ($534 per day), Boston ($511), Washington, D.C. ($462) and Chicago ($444).
The study looked at cost of accommodations, food and taxi or car rental. In New York City, the most expensive aspect was accommodations; the average hotel room costs $385 per night.
On the other end of the scale, the cheapest place in the United States for business travel was Bakersfield, Calif., where it costs just $241 per day. Among non-U.S. destinations, the priciest cities were Tokyo ($489 per day), Zurich ($472), London ($469), Basel ($443) and Geneva ($432).
