As hotel in-room tech amenities become increasingly common, from Amazon Alexa to free WiFi and streaming services, Freepoint Hotel takes things one step farther with an industry-first partnership with RadioPublic.
The new partnership sits at the intersection of hospitality and tech, as the new, independent Cambridge hotel aims to taps into the world of podcasts for its guests. RadioPublic, a Boston-based mobile app and listening platform for on-demand podcasts, will offer curated playlists and listening recommendations for hotels guests, aimed specifically at traveler interests.
More than 67 million Americans listen to more than 250,000 podcasts, a statistic Freepoint Hotel couldn’t ignore. The guest service will offer a handpicked collection of podcast episodes, from the “Boston Like a Local” playlist featuring episodes that touch on the latest in regional sports, culture and history to food-lover lists that dive into the local culinary scene, selected by Freepoint Executive Chef Matthew Gaudet. Fitness enthusiasts can tune into the “Work It Out” channel, featuring shows to listen to while working out at the hotel’s gym or going for a run around Cambridge, and those looking for some R&R can select the “Wind It Down” channel, featuring relaxation shows to listen to before bed.
How does it work? Upon check-in, guests will receive a link on their smartphones where they access the playlists at any time throughout their stay by downloading the RadioPublic app and browsing the Freepoint Hotel channel.
There will also be devices mounted in the lobby, allowing guests to grab headphones and a seat and listen to the podcasts.
“Podcasts are a great way for curious people to experience the world,” said Jake Shapiro, CEO, RadioPublic. “The Freepoint Channel on RadioPublic is a wonderful travel companion — inspirational, educational and totally entertaining.”
The channel will regularly update with new episodes, ensuring returning guests have a new experience with each visit.
